#OneMillionAndYou

About a month ago, I began having conversations with my fellow event staff members on how we could get the word out about working Student Life Summer Staff.  I have been able to serve for the past nine summers and have seen incredible legacies left by my peers who served alongside me and by the ones who came before me.  My legacy of nine summers has been built upon their backs and the hard work they instilled in us, who came after them.

I love that LEGACY here at Student Life is a very important part of who we are, not only as an organization but as individual people.  I have been taught that my legacy is only found within the work of Christ and his saving grace.  It’s about those whom I serve with and the people and churches we have a chance to serve.

With 2013 on the horizon bringing a new season of conferences and summer camps, we get to celebrate 20 years of ministry and partnership with the church.  This reality hit me when I was watching our recruiting video that begins with the text, “Over 980,000 Served”.  Wow, we have had the privilege and responsibility of serving almost one million people over 20 years, and then it hit us in our conversation about getting summer staff we will get to serve over 1,000,000 people this summer.  This birthed the idea of #OneMillionAndYOU.

Over the past 19 years countless people have come and gone from Student Life leaving a mark, a legacy, while serving every person God has brought into our path.  So we said:

“Hey let’s make a hashtag and shirt and get the word out that this year we have a chance to serve, in the life of Student Life, over 1,000,000 people.  This is an incredible legacy that has been left for us to pick up and carry on faithfully not only to our former fellow summer staffers but to Jesus who has blessed us with the opportunity.”

So College Student, if you are reading this, we would love for you to join us as we get to faithfully serve the bride of Christ this summer and advance the Kingdom of God one person at a time and to build on the legacy left to us.  The family you build on a summer staff is one of the greatest joys I have ever had.  My faith and sense of godly community has grown exponentially from my summers with Student Life Staff.

So if you are about to graduate high school or are in college or even out of college, think about applying to work with us for a long lasting impact in your life and the lives of those around you.

This is why we are tweeting #OneMillionAndYOU.  Spread the word.
