Why do we partner with Compassion International and who are they?

There are 6.8 billion people living in the world. The hard truth to swallow is that many of them are living in extreme poverty trying to make it on less than $2 a day. This statistic challenged the leadership at Student Life to take action in doing something to take care of the "least of these".

Our first step was to explore what we could do with the resources we have to take action. We then began to search for whom we could partner with to make the largest global impact possible in Jesus' name. Our search led to Compassion International and we knew that it was a great fit for us. We fully believed in their mission, support their model of working with the local church in 26 countries, and their financial integrity has been validated year after year by Charity Navigator.

Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty. Currently, Compassion helps more than 1.1 million children living in desperate need around the world. Each child is connected with a sponsor who gives a monthly donation to support the needs of that child. The key is the relationship that the sponsor and child create. This relationship has helped many children transform into living a life full of hope and purpose rather than the living in hopeless poverty. Through this program children are enabled to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Many of the Student Life staff have been privileged to see the impact of Compassion's efforts first hand - to share time with the project workers, children and families in Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, Philippines, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. We are excited to be in our 3rd summer to host graduates of Compassion's child advocacy program who are pursuing their degrees in universities. These incredible men and women join our teams traveling through the summer to speak to students hosted at our events. Their stories of physical, emotional and spiritual redemption have led to sponsorships, which in turn, has changed the lives of children around the world forever. The majority of our leadership team at Student Life is connected to a child through sponsorship.
