Staff Volunteering

What makes volunteering at Student Life Camp different? LEADERSHIP.

The Staff Volunteer program is designed for 11th & 12th grade students who are looking to grow in their faith and serve as a leader. This is a great opportunity for youth ministries who are looking for intentional moments to teach their students about servant leadership. When a staff volunteer group arrives at camp, they will quickly be given the title “Staff Volunteer” and will serve with our staff all week long. They will help with load in, check-in, housing, recreation, hospitality, camp store, production, and more! The best part? You will be serving together as a group all week long! This opens the door for milestone moments to take place within your ministry, so that they will go home with your ministry.

If you’re looking for one of the best ways to help your 11th and 12th graders step into their call to servant leadership, then Staff Volunteering at Student Life Camp is for you!

Testimonials

Volunteering at Student Life camp has been a transformative experience for our high schoolers. The impact on their leadership skills is undeniable. I’ve witnessed remarkable growth in their ability to lead with confidence and compassion. They not only deepen their understanding of faith but also learn to apply those principles in their daily lives. It has fostered a sense of community among them, forging bonds that extend beyond the volunteering experience. I will continue to bring our group because I believe in the profound impact it has on shaping the future leaders of our community.

Matt Simpson

Minister of Students, First Baptist Church of Lake Wales
It’s an incredible and fun experience where students have the privilege of immersing themselves in true Servant Leadership. It is hard work, the days are long, and weariness will be there without a doubt.  But the heavenly rewards of serving along Student Life Camps in their goal to help students experience Jesus Christ are exceedingly and abundantly above all that you could ask or think. Truly a transformational experience to the Youth Leader and his or her students.

Hugo Gutierrez

Youth Coordinator, Mid-Way Baptist Church
As a high school student, I was able to interact with staff who were living out their faith in the stage of life I was preparing to enter. Throughout the week I was challenged and encouraged through meaningful conversations and service experience with SLC staff. This hands-on opportunity provided  me with real and personal examples of what it meant to serve and mature in my faith!

Joelle Tidwell

Event Director, Student Life Camp
We saw our youth step up in leadership while there and when they came home. I was unprepared for how greatly volunteering at Student Life Kids Camp would impact my team. We are sending another group back this summer.

Bradford Laubinger

Senior Pastor,
First Baptist Church of Desloge
Staff Volunteering is a gem that if most churches knew about, they would take advantage of. My students have impressed me year after year in how they willingly go above and beyond to serve the Church and it all stems from the Student Life Team’s leadership and living out their values.

FAQ’s

Who Can Be a Staff Volunteer?

Volunteer groups can vary in size from 8-14 people including adults. Each Volunteer group will need to have a minimum of 2 adult leaders.

Each student should have:

  • A growing and maturing relationship with Jesus
  • Completed at least 2 years of high school
  • A desire to serve and work hard with a positive attitude

(We have a Staff Volunteer Application available for your own use to benefit your selection of Staff Volunteers if you so choose.)

What Are A Staff Volunteer’s Responsibilities?

There are a lot of different things that need to be done each week to have a successful week of camp. Some of the ways that you can expect to serve are…

  • Auditorium Load-In and Load-Out of production gear, sets, etc.
  • Preparation for Check-In (posting signs, setting up rooms, etc.)
  • First day of Camp Check-In (name tags, greeting, parking, etc.)
  • Recreation games (set-up/take-down, lead activities)
  • Worship room support (cameras, backstage, ushering, etc.)
  • Store help (set-up/take-down, selling merchandise, inventory, etc.)
  • Camp Office support (making copies, collating documents, etc.)
  • Other assigned tasks
What Does Student Life Provide for Staff Volunteers?
  • Meals and housing while serving
  • Two Staff Volunteer shirts to be worn every full day of camp
  • Recreation games (set-up/take-down, lead activities)
  • Daily partnership with Student Life Staff
  • Specific time in the week for servant leadership investment with your students
What Does it Cost to Staff Volunteer?

The cost to Staff Volunteer is $30 per person, which is a fraction of the cost that Student Life incurs hosting each Staff Volunteer. We have found that a nominal fee helps students to take their commitment to serve more seriously.

Where Can We Staff Volunteer?

Staff Volunteer groups are able to serve at nearly every Rec Camp location. In order to provide the best experience and the most intentionality with your group, we only allow one Staff Volunteer group per week of camp, so spots are limited.

When Do We Show Up To Staff Volunteer?

We ask that our groups arrive on the night two days before camp starts (if camp starts on a Monday, arriving on Saturday night), or the night before camp starts. This is dependent on if we need to Load-In to the location that week of camp or not. You would then stay through our Load-Out on the last day of camp, which is typically done by 2:00pm.

We are able to be flexible with your group’s availability if there are minor discrepancies on arrival and departure times.

Can I Bring College Students To Staff Volunteer?

Absolutely! We just ask that all Staff Volunteers have completed at least two years of High School, so college aged students are always welcome as well.
